When I went to Sapporo in 2004 for the 雪祭り (the Snow Festival), my friend Brian and I stumbled upon many unusual snow sculptures and artistic winter creations.
Perhaps the most daunting of all was the army of Japanese snowmen we encountered (click for biggie):
Some of them look a little imposing, but most of them look downright confused.
If you’d like to attend, the Sapporo Snow Festival starts on February 5th, and will be awesome again this year.
Continuing with the 雪祭り theme, next post I’ll have an "identify the snow sculpture contest!" Stay tuned.

That reminds me of a Christmas card I found at Tokyu Hands last year. It had a picture of snowmen with a pseudo-English “greeting” that read “The snowmen are coming!”
Sounded more like a threat or a warning to me.

They are all so cute.
I can’t believe there are so many… That is some crazy determination.
Do you know what the red and green decorations are made out of?

Paul,
That card sounds awesome! No chance you got a picture of it, is there?
Katie,
I don’t entirely remember what they were made out of… hmmm. Some sort of paper or just thin plastic, maybe? Anyway, you can see a picture of the little kids making their snowmen here, if you’re curious.

Wow! How do people stay in the snow for so long and still stay determined to make 100 snowmen?
The determination they must have is pretty scary.

Each of those snowmen was made by a different person, usually a Japanese child. They weren’t all made by the same person.
And there were way more than 100. :o)

Whoa! Now that’s a LOT of snowmen… but yeah, they don’t seem to make a very good army hehe

Let’s see… Mr. Chris, have you realized that this now-defunct blog is becoming backlink fodder?? Well, not that that is a bad thing for us commentators, but… you should definitively try installing an anti-spam plug-in or filter out the comments yourself every now and then.
And once again, that is a BADASS army of snowmen in there! heh, I wish we had snow here in Colombia…
